Ex Cathedra
Latin: "From the Chair"
Ex Cathedra is the "Required" series for all the models who shoot in my studio. Everyone must shoot in the Chair. The content and tone of those images is entirely up to the model.
This series has grown out of a number of silly and unrelated events, but has become a cornerstone of my studio work. The title comes from the Latin term meaning "from the chair". It refers to the tradition that bishops (including the Bishop of Rome--a.k.a. the Pope) who make statements, hand down edicts, or express opinions while seated in their chair of office (the actual chair, that is), do so with the full weight and authority of the Church and their position within it. Over the centuries, it has been adapted into secular speech to mean "speaking with a recognized authority".
In this case, the Chair is an antique dental chair from the early 1960s. The "authority" is the model's own voice. This is them telling who they are. They choose the wardrobe, the pose, the props, and the tone. I choose how to shoot it.
This is an on-going series, and I always seem to be several models behind on keeping it up to date, so check back frequently to see who's been added and how they choose to show themselves off.

Purchase Framed Prints
Most of the images shown here are available for purchase as framed, matted prints.
To purchase an image as a print, select the image for viewing. At the bottom of the page is a drop-down menu labeled "Item actions". Select "Add Photo To Cart". This will open your shopping cart. If you return to the gallery before completing your transaction, you may view your cart at any time by right clicking on the page an selecting your shopping cart from the floating sidebar that will appear (Javascript must be enabled).
All prints are sold based on a 16x20-inch "best fit" layout. This means that the image will be printed in correct proportions on a 16x20 sheet of photographic paper and then trimmed to match it's actual proportions. All images are professionally printed using state-of-the-art equipment and professional-grade materials. They are mounted on acid-free backing using corner blocks. The matte is a neutral grey, 1.25 inches wide (after framing). The frame is flat black American Frame standard aluminum. The glass is plain (non-archival).
Matte, frame, glass, and mounting can all be upgraded or customized for an additional charge. Please e-mail me to discuss any custom options and pricing.
All standard prints are sold at a cost of $300 US. Shipping is an additional $20. Payment processing is handled by PayPal. Their system will accept Visa, MasterCard and, of course, PayPal. Your receipt will list a payment to an address at dragonflydreams.org. Both printing and framing are done by professional companies, and are out of my hands. Expect 6-8 weeks to complete and ship your order.
FYI: The models in these photographs receive a commission on all sales of their images. These models have not been otherwise paid for these photographs, nor for their time spent modeling.
